GPS Data Products

The Plate Boundary Observatory has made a broad range of GPS data products available to support users who wish to do their own data processing as well as those who only want to use higher-level processed data in their research.

Available data products include raw data from the GPS receivers (Level 0 data), quality-checked data in RINEX format at a 15-second sample rate (Level 1 data), post-processed time series, velocities, and accompanying files (Level 2 data), and key metadata such as station positions and IGS site logs.  File formats for each of these data products are available via the links below.

Raw Receiver Files

FTP Download: Directory

Raw files are proprietary-format binary files downloaded from GPS receivers. They contain more information than do higher-level data products, but are meant for expert users only.

RINEX Files

Archive Interface: GUI
FTP Download: Directory
File Format: UNAVCO Website

RINEX files are the de facto ASCII standard for sharing GPS data. They contain metadata and observation information for post-processing.

SINEX Files

FTP Download: DIRECTORY
File Format: IERS Website

SINEX files contain all the information used by the PBO Analysis Centers during daily processing, and are in a community-standard ASCII format.

Phase RMS Files

FTP Download: Directory
File Format: PDF

Phase RMS files contain estimates of daily station-specific phase RMS error calculated during GIPSY and GAMIT post-processing.

Station Position Timeseries

FTP Download: Directory
File Format: PDF

Daily station position time series in the NAM08 (North America fixed reference frame based in ITRF2008), IGS08, IGS05, and SNARF 1.0 reference frames are estimated during PBO post-processing and published as ASCII-format files.

Network Velocities

FTP Download: NAM08 File
FTP Download: IGS08 File
FTP Download: IGS05 File
FTP Download: SNARF File
File Format: PDF

Network velocity files are in ASCII format and contain estimates of PBO GPS station velocities in the NAM08 (North America fixed reference frame based in ITRF2008), IGS08, IGS05, and SNARF 1.0 reference frames.

Tropospheric Parameters

FTP Download: Directory
File Format: PDF

These ASCII files contain tropospheric parameters generated by the GIPSY and GAMIT programs during daily GPS post-processing.

Station Coordinates

HTTP download: File

This is an ASCII file containing PBO-processed coordinates for all GPS stations in the PBO network.

IGS Site Logs

FTP Download: Directory

The IGS site log is an ASCII-format standard for publishing key metadata for a permanent GPS station, including location, equipment history and contact information.
